Assignment #4

"Wildflower Canyon" by Marc Adamus

I chose this landscape because it is cute and simple and the colors are really strong. I have never been there but it reminds me of something in a fairytale. My favorit part is the wooden fence along the side and how it leads back to the tree. The color is very importand with the really green grass and the yellow flowers. They give the photograph a happy feeling. The compositioin is strong with the tree being in the center and the land taking up a little more than half of the picture. I wouldnt change anything, it looks good. If I could go there I would pick flowers because they are really pretty. I would put myself in the back by the tree.

Assignment #3: movement

Alfred Eisenstaedt, 1936

In the photograph, movement is portrayed by the ballerinas dancing and the photograph captures them in motion. Movement is shown through the positions of the ballerinas so you know that they are moving even though it is not blurred. Movement is an important principle because it makes the photograph more interesting and makes you think about what they are doing. The other elements and principles that work with the movement is the black and white color because it makes they photograph look older. The line of the dancers draws your eye back and gives the photograph depth.

My goal is to use movement more, even though it is harder to capture, because it makes the photograph more interesting and it makes you think more about whats going on.

Photo Journal #2

The photograph is Pool in a Brook, Pond Brook, Near Whiteface, New Hampshire by Eliot Porter. The photograph has warm and cool colors that contrast each other. The colors are really pretty and dark and they make the picture more interesting.
The top of the picture has the water reflecting red, yellow and orange. Then the water reflects white diagonally in the middle separating those colors from the blackish blue at the bottom of the photograph. The colors help show the texture of the water.
If the photograph were in black and white, it would not have the same effect because one of the main focuses of the picture is the different colors.

Motion Critical Response

• They both show motion happening in many frames.
• They show movement that would happen very quickly but in a lot of frames so its like each small movement is frozen in time.
• The purpose it to capture motion happening in pictures. It is what i saw from looking at the photographs.
